duke gardens durham nc Things to do in Durham

Durham offers a plethora of activities; something for everyone!  Sports, history, museums, various types of restaurant’s, performing arts, parks, and so much more…

We can’t start without mentioning the Durham Bulls and Bull Park; can you really live in the RTP area, and not go to at least one game?   Though on the subject of parks, my favorite is Duke Gardens!  This park is so picturesque!  The day could be spent taking pictures but can also be a family day!  Enjoy a picnic lunch by the pond; there’s enough open space to throw a football, Frisbee or pass a soccer ball back and forth.  After a relaxing lunch, hike around the gardens and relish in the surroundings.  Not only is it beautiful…it’s free!

Another favorite is Museum of Life and Science; the inside of the museum is informative and fun, the butterfly museum is amazing and the trail to see the animals is gratifying!  If you are spending the day entertaining the kids, don’t forget DefyGravity…the kids will go to sleep early after playing here!  Monday through Friday they offer a Kid Jump from 9 to 10 with one parent allowed to jump for free; a good deal at $8.00.

There is so much more to do in Durham from enjoying an evening at the Durham Performing Arts Center to spending the day at Eno River State Park.  Our next trip we plan to visit Duke Homestead, Stagville, and the Nasher Museum of Art…this should keep us busy for the day!

Whatever you enjoy doing, there is something for you…
