The Colors of Fall in NC
Summer is officially over; the children have returned to school and there is a slight chill to the morning air. All around us we are surrounded with the brilliant colors of fall!
For those of us who love to take picture, it is a great time of year to grab our camera’s and hit the road in search of the perfect picture. Then there are those who just enjoy a road trip to see the fall foliage! Either way, we are lucky because some of the best area’s to see the lush colors, are here, North Carolina. Some are day trips and some are weekend excursions!
Of course driving around the RTP area, there are plenty of trees that we can gander at their beauty but for the true opulence head for the mountains! In early October visit Pisgah National Forest and take in the colorful views of Cold Mountain. Next head to the highest peak in the Eastern part of the United States; Mount Mitchell State Park. This is a great drive; full of color, and worth the time. Of course, going to Asheville is a destination that a lot of people enjoy since it is the starting point of many lovely drives.
For the outdoor enthusiast all of these options offer plenty of hiking trails but you could also take a weekend trip to Virginia and bike The Virginia Creeper Trail. There are plenty of inexpensive places to stay and it is a beautiful bike ride; spring, summer, or fall. This is an easy bike ride as you take a bus to the top and ride down. (Just pre-plan)
Whatever you like, take a few moments to lavish in the colors, take a deep breath, and relish in all that surrounds you! ENJOY!
